About Us (Me)

I am a 21 year old female who was born in Manchester but I have lived in a small, deprived town called Scunthorpe. Throughout my childhood I was a hard worker and I developed a passion for the subject of Economics at around age 16 – I am now in my second year of studying Economics at the University of Manchester.

I have decided to start this blog because I have found that when I come home from university I get asked a lot about my degree – how its going, do I enjoy it etc etc. This is then followed up by the question – what actually is economics? One man asked me if that meant I was cooking and studying how to clean.

Why is this relevant?
I believe that economics is an extremely interesting, important and relevant subject that people ought to know more about. For young people, economics isn’t really an option to study at GCSE even though it is one of the more useful subjects they could be learning. The place I grew up in suffered from a lack of opportunity due to its massive underfunding. This doesn’t just mean that we go without fancy shopping centres and private schools – we go without knowledge, and knowledge is power.

I wanted to start a blog about economics but I want the authors of the blogs to be ‘normal’ people, I want these blogs to appeal to people who may not actually have much background knowledge on this subject but are still wanting to understand things about the subject. I have a passion for this subject and I want others to develop this same passion.

A unique concept is that I want these posts to feel like a relaxed conversation or maybe even a rant – whilst still being informative. I am just starting out this idea but I have great hopes for what this blog can become!
